Tribute to Mum

These chapters are taken from the tribute to Sally that was written by her children and read at her funeral on 4th November. When we first began to discuss this tribute, we knew that we were faced with a nearly impossible task. How can you describe in just a few minutes a life that was so rich and diverse? The challenge of summing up so much information in such a short time is certainly one that Mum would understand. Of course, she was no stranger to challenge herself – and, as with everything else in her life, she met her challenges head on and gave her all. It's fair to say that her determination and indomitable spirit are legendary. Many of us have seen at first hand the great strength of will that Mum possessed – a quality which she so often used to help those around her. Her considerate and generous nature often led her to put the needs of others before her own and she was always quick to lend a hand or a sympathetic ear. Her fortitude and compassion were an inspiration to many people, as was her great enthusiasm for life. She had numerous interests and enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies and activities over the years, from amateur dramatics to collecting sheep. Her thirst for knowledge gave her a desire to understand a diverse range of subjects, from complex scientific theories to the minutiae of modern culture, a fact which did not go unnoticed by her teachers: her school reports frequently included remarks such as “Sally Clark asks too many questions”.
