Photography (from Tribute)

It would not be possible to speak about Mum's interests without mentioning her passion for photography. The moment when she received her first Box Brownie marked the beginning of a hobby that grew throughout her life. Whether she was capturing a glorious sunset in the Italian lakes, acting as official photographer at a badminton tournament or simply taking snaps of a family event, she always felt at home behind a camera. It is thanks to this hobby that we have so many reminders of all those happy times and I'm sure that everyone here has a story to tell about Mum and her photos. I, for one, will never forget the annual Christmas 'photo shoot' at my aunt's house, which often caused a great deal of amusement for the family. Mum, of course, was quite a perfectionist when it came to photography and we all became familiar with the phrase “just one more” as she tried to get the perfect photo where no-one was blinking or looking the wrong way. So it was one year, when some of us decided to try a little experiment. As Mum set the timer and ran into shot for the fourth or fifth time, the entire back row – as one - ducked down out of sight. I have to say, it worked better than we had expected, although Mum remained unaware that anything was amiss until the photo was developed and she discovered that half the family had mysteriously disappeared behind the sofa.
