Nature and wildlife (from Tribute)

Mum spent many happy hours combining her enthusiasm for photography with her love of nature and wildlife. She enjoyed visiting gardens with her family or friends and walking in the woods near her home, especially in the springtime when the ground would be covered in a bright carpet of bluebells. And she would always listen out for the first cuckoo of the year. Her appreciation of the wonders of nature was limitless – she was fascinated by it all and it is no surprise to those who knew her that she chose 'All things bright and beautiful' as one of the hymns for this service. On sunny days, Mum would often be found in her beloved garden that she tended and developed over so many years. Many of us have enjoyed chatting with her in this peaceful oasis, catching up with the latest news and admiring the wonderful profusion of plants that surrounded her famous wildlife pond. In quiet moments, she would relax in her favourite garden chair, listening to the sound of the fountain and watching the birds flying down to peck at the bird feeder that was always kept topped up, come rain or shine. It was typical of Mum to take care that the birds were fed and given clean water. With her great love of nature came a strong desire to help protect and maintain the wildlife and natural heritage that she enjoyed so much. She took those responsibilities very seriously and her support for charities such as the Woodland Trust and the World Wildlife Fund is one more example of this.
